Blutter/Shiff Design was founded over 50 years ago by Joan Blutter, FASID, who was an industry leader and visionary. The firm is located in the Mart Design Center which gives us, and our clients, an unmatched advantage thanks to the proximity to the cache of unparalleled showrooms. 

Led by Joan's daughter, Janet Blutter Shiff, ASID, the firm has an extremely loyal and broad client base in both primary and secondary homes throughout the country. We continue to nurture the relationships made throughout our many years in business.

We strive to incorporate our philosophy of timeless, classic, and individual design into all our work. No two projects are alike. As shown on the interiors page, we pride ourselves on providing our clients a fresh and individual look to fit their particular lifestyle. And we believe no job is off-limits or too trivial. We take on residential, contract, and commercial jobs both large and small. Our firm can execute any or all facets of a project, from start to finish, be it purchasing and project management or space planning and construction.

Our work has been published in numerous trade magazines, digital outlets, and consumer publications. In addition to a vast number of residential and commercial projects throughout the Chicago area, we have many clients throughout Florida, California, Arizona, New York, Colorado, and the Midwest.

Janet Blutter Shiff, President, has been designing residential and commercial interiors for more than 40 years. A recognized leader in the design community, she is often asked to participate on industry discussion panels nationwide. She has appeared on HGTV and the Discovery Channel, as well as local networks. Her work has been published in numerous trade magazines and consumer publications.
Janet received her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and completed her interior design education at Harrington College of Interior Design. She also studied design in Copenhagen and continues to be inspired and influenced through her extensive travels in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, and Australia.
Her greatest gift was working with her mother and partner, Joan Blutter - who inspired her to always be the best and "love what you do - and do what you love."
She fosters collaboration and communication with her clients, so that she is able to maintain the incredible high level and personal attention required to make every individual and project feel special and one-of-a-kind.

Lynn Boutross, ASID, is Senior Design Partner and has been with the firm for over 30 years.
With her wealth of knowledge and experience in project management and construction she is a vital part of the Blutter/Shiff team. 
As Lead Designer, she excels at interpreting clients' needs by staying on budget and creating their individual ambiance to fit their lifestyle and incorporates the firm's philosophy of timeless, elegant design.
She brings creativity and innovative problem solving to every project in order to achieve the highest level of design and service. Lynn holds a BA in Fine Arts and is fully licensed with NCIDQ Certification.
Her work was recently featured on the cover of LUXE Magazine, and she has been mentioned numerous occasions on digital outlets such as HOUZZ.
Lynn resides in Evanston with her husband James and their two boys. 

Kerry Hefron brings a special set of skills to Blutter/Shiff Design, as design associate and office manager.
Her diverse background and excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as her design abilities make her an incredible asset to our team. She holds a BA in Organizational Leadership and an Interior Design degree.
Her role as the day to day manager of the Blutter/Shiff office and design associate are the perfect combination.
Kerry resides in the Gold Coast with her husband Erik and her dog Abbey.

Christine Lim, design associate, joined Blutter/Shiff in 2016, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from the Illinois Institute of Art. Christine comes from a commercial real estate background, having previously worked for several prominent developers, and later managed a portfolio of Chicago office and retail properties, where she oversaw all contractors and supervised extensive renovations. Prior to her real estate career, Christine worked in finance and investment banking in New York, London, and Washington DC. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Northwestern University, and a Master's degree in Foreign Policy from Georgetown University.

As founder of Blutter/Shiff Design, Joan Blutter was a leader in the interior design profession.
She had an impeccable reputation, and thanks to her gregarious personality and tireless work ethic, she received numerous awards and honors over the 50 years she was in business, including fellowship in the ASID and Designer of the Year numerous times. 
Our firm is a product of her hard work and determination, as well as the fabulous sense of style and impeccable business practice she so strongly believed in.
